NOthing much going on here..

School has started, fall has arrived and Bellrose is busy.

Our gardening season here is coming to a close. It was very up and down to say the least but it was a wonderful learning experience.

Vandalism was our main problem and we will have to come up with solutions for that soon. Also, community participation was low and will will have to find ways to encourage that.

Progress

Sorry for not updating! Life has been busy around here are Bellrose/Belrose. Everything is really starting to get off the ground! I must say the garden is the biggest highlight right now so here are some pictures of it:

This was after that heavy downpour that happened a week or so ago. Our tomato plants took a beating!

Green Peppers:

Sweet potatoes:

After we got some tomato cages and we have some eversweet strawberries in the box in front. The kids requested them so we are giving it a try! :

Now We Plant!

We took a trip the the Kansas City Community Gardens and signed up for membership, got some seeds, transplants and much needed advice.

It’s time to plant!

For now we are doing sweet potatoes, green peppers and tomatoes. We are very excited and can’t wait to see and eat what we grow!

A very special thanks to Mary, who is in many of the pictures above and Heidi for all their help!

The Start of Our Garden

With the help of Healthy Kids Initiative, Youth Build, people from the Mini Street community garden and some of our kids and residents we got a small garden going on the side of our community center.

Our first job was to get the ground ready, put the garden beds in and get some good dirt in!

Take a look!

Thanks to all who donated their time, energy and equipment to help get us started!

Part II: The Planting is coming up soon!
